Rumania and Bulgaria will join the EU in 2007. Therefore it is worthwhile having a look at the development of exports into these countries. Preliminary figures for the first six months of 2006 were published at the beginning of this week by the Federal Statistical Office. According to these figures the value of goods exported there rose to three billion Euros which represents an increase by 21.0 percent in the first half year 2006 as compared to the same period in 2005.
Over the same period imports from Rumania to Germany increased by 25.0 percent to reach 1.9 billion Euros. In the first six months of 2006 German exports to Bulgaria amounted to 946.1 million Euro (+ 10.0 percent as compared to 2005), whereas exports from Bulgaria to Germany reached 646.6 million Euro which is an increase by 36.0 percent as compared to 2005.
Among Germany’s most important trade partners in 2005 Rumania ranked 29th and 30th with regard to exports and imports respectively. Rumania’s neighbour Bulgaria came 46th and 50th respectively.
