Hardware market: The manufacturers of servers are doing good business

In the third quarter of 2015, 9.2% more servers were sold worldwide than in the same quarter of the previous year, with turnover increasing by 7.5%. The development can be observed in all regions of the Earth.

According to information from the market research institution Gartner, the strongest growth rates were achieved in the Asian and Pacific region. Only in Eastern Europe, Japan and Latin America did sales figures and turnover fall.

The market leader both in terms of numbers of units and turnover is HP, with a market share of 22.2 and 27.3% respectively. This is followed by Dell with an 18.1% market share according to numbers of units and 17.9% according to turnover, as well as IBM, which, following the sale of its x86 server to Lenovo, only appears in the ranking of the server providers with the highest turnovers, and only takes 9.8% here. These turnovers now come exclusively from business with RISC machines and mainframes, in which there are traditionally no high unit numbers. In contrast, Lenovo has advanced to third and fourth place respectively, and racks up a market share of 8.8 for unit numbers and 7.9% of the global server market when it comes to turnover.
