For companies looking for a platform for their private cloud, Oracle has introduced the new Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5-8.
The optimised X5-8 servers are also suitable for in-memory databases, data warehouses or demanding OLTP workloads. Several databases with different workloads can be merged and operated in parallel on one Exadata X5-8 – both from within the company as well as in combination with cloud databases. Both worlds are administrated on Oracle Enterprise Manager.
The X5-8 works with new Intel E7-8895 v3 processors, each with 18 cores, meaning that the database server runs up to 25% faster. The system accommodates a total of up to 576 CPU cores, has 1.3 petabytes of disk storage or 180 terabytes of PCIe flash memory and up to 24 terabytes of RAM.
Oracle Exadata X5-8 is delivered with Oracle Exadata Software 12.1.2.2.0 and provides IPv6 support, virtualisation with Oracle VM, management and security by ExaCLI and statistics with AWR reports. The new Exdata software also supports previous generation Exadata hardware as well as the databases Oracle 12c and 11g Release 2.
Storage and networking are the same as with Exadata X5-2 and can be configured and expanded as needed. The Oracle Exadata Database Machine X5-8 is offered in addition to the X5-2 and is available immediately. (Source: Oracle/bs)
