Social networks: Insider attacks take advantage of professional contacts

Social networks for professionals are not secure either; indeed, they are rather popular with online fraudsters. In this area, people often give strangers access to so much personal and business data that they can quickly become the victims of cybercrime, warns Raimund Genes, CTO of Trend Micro.

Anyone who receives a contact request from strangers in a social network for professionals should carefully check the sender’s profile: if it contains very few details, this contradicts the purpose of a network for professionals. Typos and obviously false information are also not typical of someone who is looking to make professional contacts. And the fact that a profile shows only a few contacts may also be an indication that it was set up rather hastily and for a targeted attack.
