The illegal reproduction and distribution of copyright-protected online content is mainly the result of security gaps in mobile and desktop applications. This is what the fourth State of Application Security Report, conducted by Arxan in conjunction with the iThread Cyber Group (IGC), found.
The relevant data about the unauthorised distribution of digital content on the dark web comes from the last three years. According to the report, over 1.6 million publications were pirated in 2014 alone, resulting in losses of approximately US$800 billion for the authors. Malware, which is linked to pirated software, also results in huge costs for companies. Furthermore, very few applications are equipped with security mechanisms to prevent attackers from analysing the App’s binary code and reconstructing the source code. (Source: Arxan/bs)
