IoT Apps: Java earns money

Over the next few years, we could see a sudden increase in the number of networked objects. Two thirds of developers of IoT Apps worldwide anticipate that their solutions will generate real revenue in productive use. This was the finding of a recent survey, conducted by Harbor Research on behalf of Progress. 675 developers in the US, Europe and India were surveyed.

The developers surveyed said that they consider the protection of privacy to be the biggest challenge worldwide when it comes to creating and using IoT Apps (20%), followed closely by open and interoperable standards and the protection of data from cyber attacks (both 19%). In terms of the platforms and languages used by the developers, Java came out as the most popular worldwide by far (55%), followed by PHP (17%) and Node.js (12%). (Source: Progress/bs)
