More and more medium-sized companies are using OpenStack, or plan to do so in the near future. The run on the open platform is so great that many fear they won’t be able to find enough qualified people for it.
According to Red Hat’s OpenStack Enterprise Adoption Survey, the main reasons for implementing the platform are the faster provision of services (77%), lower operational IT costs (52%) and a more flexible infrastructure (44%). The main difficulties are in the shortage of experienced employees and the complex task of adapting the platform to existing applications and internal processes. Overall, though, Red Hat clearly values OpenStack: “We believe that OpenStack today is where Linux was ten years ago.” (Source Red Hat/bs)
