Network Architecture: Software-Defined WANs Transport According to Urgency

Medium-sized companies are becoming increasingly frustrated by the high costs and the complexity of their conventionally-used wide area networks. However, cheaper internet connections lack the control and optimisation functions necessary for the transfer of data critical to business.

As an alternative, networker supplier Silver Peak suggests migration to a software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) that makes hybrid or pure internet WAN connections available in shared IT environments. An SD-WAN consists of a visualised overlay network infrastructure and functions for controlling the WAN paths so that the user can access the applications via all networks and without disruptions or disturbances.
