Storage: Data on SSD is Stored Dangerously

Solid state discs are generally considered as reliable. A third of users have nevertheless already experienced technical problems with SSD storage. Nearly two thirds of these cases resulted in data loss for the company.

The data rescue company Kroll Ontrack followed up their suspicion that SSDs are nowhere near as reliable as always assumed, with a survey of 2000 IT decision makers across the world. The complexity of SSDs also places special demands on recovery. Although the industry is working on it, there are still no standards for the layout and organisation of data on SSDs. More than three quarters of those questioned use SSD media in mobile devices, 60% in desktop computers and already 20% in server environments. (Source: Kroll Ontrack/bs)
