Companies rely too heavily on virus protection, URL filters and firewalls in their own computer centres to protect them from hacks, data theft and industrial espionage. Internal web application firewalls are quickly overloaded by huge and ever more sophisticated DDoS attacks.
However, according to the Akamai security report, many companies concentrate too much on the implementation of internal protective measures. For IT departments, upkeep, maintenance and continuously installing updates takes a lot of effort and expense. To tackle this, the report recommends a multi-layered solution approach that supplements measures within the firewall with a cloud-based external protective wall from the service provider.
