Job market: Digitisation requires IT professionals

If you take a closer look at the development of the last four years, it becomes evident that the job market for IT specialists has developed quite well: the demand for them is twice as high as for engineers. The Hays professionals’ index for the fourth quarter of 2014 clearly shows this, with the largest increase in comparison to 2011 being the search for network administrators. The increasing integration of IT systems and worlds is clearly having a positive effect on the employment market.

Surprisingly, the number of job vacancies for web developers has however been steadily decreasing. In the context of increasing digitisation, it would appear that websites no longer enjoy the pre-eminent importance they once did. The demand for employees and project managers for IT support nevertheless remains constant.

The future job market is also looking positive for IT professionals. The much-cited digital transformation requires specialists on many levels – in addition to new professional fields at the interfaces of IT industry and commerce. In other words, despite the good prospects, IT professionals should not rest on their laurels.
