IT security: CIOs fear downtime due to DDoS attacks

Companies that are not reliably protected against DDoS attacks, hacker attacks and information theft are at risk of data loss, downtime and additional costs. In a current BT survey carried out among IT decision-makers, more than half of those surveyed (59%) claimed that DDoS attacks are becoming more efficient at undermining their IT security, and 40% doubt that their company has an effective contingency plan for combatting DDoS attacks.

The downtime recorded in the BT whitepaper is indeed severe: On average, an organisation needs twelve hours to get back up and running following a DDoS attack. Two thirds of IT decision-makers report that their systems were down for almost a whole working day (more than six hours).
