Shadow IT: Employees push for modern communications solutions

According to a worldwide Vanson Bourne investigation on behalf of Telstra, nine out of ten IT managers find it difficult to implement all of the technological aids that employees expect today for workplace communications. This means that there is an increasing risk that employees will bypass the IT department and use their own alternatives.

According to the telecommunications company, a third of organizations already find shadow IT to be a challenge, and half of all large companies referred to the problem as “worrying”. The survey of 675 decision-makers from multinational organizations in five different countries/regions also identified areas in which staff have started to take their own initiative: according to information from Telstra, 64 percent of employees expect their IT department to make remote access available via cloud technologies; 60 percent demand mobility, and for 55 percent, desktop virtualization was top of the list.
