There’s a growing trend of working from home, but the centre of working life is and remains a company’s office: in a survey this year from Dell and Intel, “Evolving Workforce”, 95 percent of German employers said that they spend at least a little time in the office; for more than 65 percent it’s even more than three quarters of their working time. Forty-nine percent also observed that working from home is just as effective or even more productive than working in the office.
Another questionnaire, from the opinion poll institute TNS, looked at the technical equipment used by employees. The results show that for 49 percent of those questioned, the latest and best technology is extremely important. That may likewise have been an important driving force behind BYOD (Bring Your Own Device): 43 percent of the Germans questioned use their personal devices for work purposes, or at least plan to. Indeed, 34 percent of companies support this development – but only 18 percent have developed security strategies for devices brought in from home.
