Kwikset, a Black & Decker company, at CEDIA Expo 2009 (booth No. 6135 , Sept. 10-13, 2009) in Atlanta announced the availability of its remote access control solution Smartcode with Home Connect Technology. These keyless entry electronic locks are developed for interoperability with home automation and security systems, can communicate wirelessly with other devices in the home and ought to deliver a variety of access control options for residential security. The lock allows to check door lock status, automatically arms and disarms security systems and initiates customized scenes upon entrance and exit.
The lock offers remote locking and unlocking features due to its motorized driven deadbolt allowing homeowners to monitor and control their locks using either a Web-enabled device or their home automation system.
Kwikset’s Smartcode features two way functionality: the door lock can directly and wirelessly control the home security and automation systems, and vice versa. Homeowners use up to 30 customizable codes that can arm the home security system when the door is locked and disarm the system when the door is unlocked. Likewise, home automation systems can be configured to automatically set home lighting, music and climate controls based on the code used, or the specific resident entering the home.
Installation is simple as Kwikset Smartcode simply replaces any existing deadbolt and operates on four AA batteries, thus eliminating the need for hardwiring. The lock can accept automatic software updates and all wireless communication between devices remains secure by utilizing 128 bit encryption.
Kwikset’s Smartcode with Home Connect Technology will be available through Control4 installers. Black & Decker is a member of both ZigBee and Z-Wave Alliances, and will be using these, as well as any other emerging RF protocols, to communicate with home security and automation platforms. Black & Decker’s Smartcode with Home Connect Technology products utilizing Z-Wave protocols will also be on display in Z-Wave’s booth No. 1201 at CEDIA Expo 2009.
Kwikset’s Smartcode features the Smartkey technology with Bumpguard protection as back-up keyway. First introduced in 2007, Smartkey is said to be the first affordable residential lock that allows homeowners to quickly and easily re-key their lock(s) themselves in a matter of seconds and without removal from the door.
Kwikset Smartcode with Home Connect Technology is available in three finishes (Satin Nickel, Polished Brass and Venetian Bronze). (Source: Kwikset/GST)
