Wholesale trade prices down by 5.9 percent

According to the Federal Statistical Office, wholesale trade selling prices were on average down by 5.9% in January 2009 as compared to January 2008. The last such drop in prices had been registered in March 1987 (-6.1%). In comparison with December 2008 prices fell by 0.4%. In January this year, data processing devices, peripheral computer devices and software were 17.2% less expensive than in January 2008 and 2.6% less expensive than in December last year.

Wholesale trade selling prices for solid fuels and mineral oil products fell by 18.3% and 0.7% respectively.

For agricultural raw materials and foodstuffs prices also fell as compared to January 2008, but increased as compared to December 2008 due to seasonal factors. GERMAN
