In August turnover generated by the hotel and restaurant industry in Germany increased by 0.8% nominally but fell by 1.9% in real terms as compared to August in 2007. In comparison to July this year the respective changes were +0.8% and +0.6% after adjustments for season and calendar. For the period from January to August 2008 the German hotel and restaurant industry generated 0.9% more turnover in nominal terms and -1.6% in real terms as compared to the same period last year.
In comparison with August 2007 the respective changes in the restaurant industry were +1.3% (nominally) and -1.0% (really) and +0.3% and -2.8% for the hotel business. With regard to cantines and the catering business the respective changes were -0.6% and -3.2% in August 2008.
