In March this year the German whole sale trade generated 1.3% more turnover in nominal terms and 4.6% less in real terms as compared to March 2007. In comparison with February this year turnover fell by 0.6% and 1.4% in nominal and real figures after adjustments for season and calendar, as was revealed through provisional calculations by the Federal Statistical Office.
Four of the six whole sale branches generated more turnover in nominal but less in real terms in comparison with March last year. The biggest increase in turnover was registered in the whole sale trade in agricultural basic materials and livestock (+20.8% in nominal terms and -8.9% in real).
Turnover in the wholesale trade in consumer goods and durables as well as in machines, equipment and accessories was down in March in both nominal and real terms as compared with March last year.
Taking into account the period of the entire first quarter this year the German whole sale trade increased turnover in both nominal (+9.3%) and real terms (+3.7%) as compared to the same period last year.
