Among all German Federal Laender the economy of Bavaria grew the fasted last year. This was found out by the Arbeitskreis Volkswirtschaftliche Gesamtrechnung der Länder. Bavaria´s economic growth amounted to 2.9% after +2.5% and rank 6 in 2006. Thus, Bavaria’s growth in 2007 was significantly stronger than that of the German economy as a whole (+2.5%).
The city state of Hamburg came second in this list. The leading federal state in 2006, Baden-Württemberg, came third in 2007. At the bottom end Berlin was replaced by Schleswig-Holstein.
Bavaria’s leading position in 2007 is not just good luck as the growth of this freestate over the past ten years confirms. Thus, Bavaria´s GDP has grown by +29.4% over the past decade which is significantly more than that of runner-up Saarland (+20.8%). In comparison with the GDP of Germany as a whole (+16.5%) Bavaria’s economy almost grew twice as much.
The economy also grew in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, the Saarland and Saxony-Anhalt.
The Arbeitskreis Volkswirtschaftliche Gesamtrechnung is made up of employees from the Statistical Offices of all Federal Laender and bases its calculations on the statistical data provided by the Federal Laender.
