Soon the number of counterfeit brand name products from India may fall. During the German Chancellour´s visit to India the German Patent Office and its Indian counterpart agreed on close co-operation. This is a remarkable success given that India is a very important player on the Asian market.
»The co-operation between the patent offices of India and Germany is a positive signal for the international protection of intellectual property«, said the German Minister of Justice, Mrs. Brigitte Zypries, paying tribute to the new agreement. »This agreement shows that also in those developing countries with breathtaking economic growth the importance of intellectual property is recognized as the prerequisite for innovation and economic development«, added Zypries.
By signing this joint agreement the German and Indian patent offices will co-operate for the first time. In future both institutions will work together in areas such as personnel and capacity development as well as the awareness raising of the public for intellectual property. This includes the exchange of patent data, the joint training of employees and the organization of events.
