According to preliminary figures by the Federal Statistical Office hotels with at least nine beds as well as camping sites in Germany registered a total of 44.6 million overnight stays in August this year. Compared to August 2006 this corresponds to an increase by 3%. Compared to July this year the number of overnight stays did not change.
The number of overnight stays by German guests increased by 3% to 37.9 million since August 2006 while the number of overnight stays by guests from abroad rose by 4% to almost 6.7 million in this same period.
The number of guests spending a night in hotels increased by 4% to 22.9 million since August 2006, while the number of guests to rehab and other hospitals increased by 3% to 4.1 million. For all other kinds of accomodation such as camping sites, holiday flats as well as recreation homes and holiday homes the number of guests increased by 2% to 17.6 million.
Big cities are still attractive to visitors: in cities with more than 100 000 inhabitants the number of overnight stays increased by 8% in August this year as compared to August last year. In all other communities this number rose by 2%.
For the period from January to August 2007 the total number of overnight stays amounted to 247.2 million thereby surpassing last year´s number by 3%. From this number 209.8 million were accounted for by German guests (+3%) and 37.4 million by guests from abroad.
