According to the Federal Statistical Office, turnover in the hotel and restaurant industry fell by 2.9% and 5.1% in nominal and real terms respectively in July this year as compared to the same month in 2006. Compared to June 2007 turnover fell by 0.5% in nominal and by 0.6% in real terms in July.
Only canteens and caterers generated more turnover in nominal terms than in July 2006 (+1.1%). In real figures, however, turnover also fell here by 1.6%. The other two important sectors of the hotel and restaurant industry, i.e. restaurants (nominal -3.7%; real -6.4%) and hotels (nominal -2.7%; real -4.1%) generated less turnover both in nominal and real figures in July 2007 as compared to the same month last year.
In the first seven months of 2007 the hotel and restaurant industry generated more turnover in nominal figures (+0.1%) and less in real figures (-2.4%) as compared to the same period last year.
