According to preliminary figures published by the Federal Statistical Office, Germany´s trade surplus which increased by 164.6 billion Euros in 2006 hit a new record high. Thus, on a value basis German exports exceeded imports by 22.5% in 2006.
The biggest shares of the German trade surplus was generated in trade with the USA (29.5 billion Euros), followed by Spain and France (22.6 billion Euros each), the UK (22.5 billion), Italy (19.6 billion) and Austria (19.0 billion Euros).
The biggest trade deficits were registered in trade with China (21.2 billion), Norway (13.0 billion), Ireland (11.1 billion) and Japan (9.9 billion Euros).
