In March 2007 consumer prices rose stronger than in previous months. According to the Federal Statistical Office the increase in the period from March 2006 to March 2007 was 1.9%. Compared to January 2007 the difference was +0.3%.
A particularly strong effect on annual inflation in March 2007 had price increases of +3.0% for petrol (standard petrol: +3.3%, four-star petrol: +3.4%, diesel petrol: +0.4%). As compared to the previous month, petrol prices rose by 4.0%. In the other direction developed prices for consumer electronics and computers which fell by 8.5% and 13.1% respectively as compared to March 2006.
The harmonised consumer index for Germany increased by 2.0% for the period from March 2006 to March 2007. Compared to February 2007 it rose by 0.2%.
