According to a study by Kroll Ontrack, which is a software manufacturer and data rescue service provider, most computer users work quite carelessly. Even though about 40 percent of users consider their data to be of inestimable value, back up solutions are made use of either only occasionally or in a negligent manner. Thus, two thirds of users secure their data less often than once a month.
One quarter even abstain altogether from securing their data. Although about fifty percent of users do back up their data, they do, however, not ensure the back up being usable in case of need. Those who take backing up seriously are the minority: only 17 percent store the back ups apart from the original which is indispensable in order to safeguard data against loss due to burglary, fire and other catastrophes.
