The final sprint in the competition for the “Social Entrepreneur 2006” award has begun: applicants can still register until August 15th. The winner will be invited to the World Economic Forum 2007 in Davos. Up to now more than 100 companies have already been honoured and supported worldwide by the prize awarding foundation.
Admitted to taking part are “Entrepreneurs from the social sector”. In last year´s edition there were ten finalists being a mixture of Bill Gates and Mother Teresa who convinced the jury – among them e.g. Science-Lab from the Munich region. Their business is to open up the world of science and technology to children in a playful way. In order for children with a non-academic family background to have a look-in as well, the Science-Lab shows educators and teachers how to act as multiplicators.
The “Social Entrepreneur” competition is organized by the Schwab foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, the Capital economic magazine as well as by the The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The event looks for founders of companies which focus equally on profit as well as on public benefit.
