German Internet Award endowed with 3 x 25.000 Euro

Yesterday Berlin saw the launch of this year´s German Internet Award campaign. The prize which is awarded to small and medium-sized companies taking advantage of innovative information and communications technology was created in the year 2000 by the German Federal Ministry of Economy and Technoloy (BMWi) and will be confered for the first time this year by the Bundesverband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und neue Medien (BITKOM).

„We are very happy to have the honour to award this prestigious prize from now on”, said the BITKOM chairman Willi Berchtold at the opening event. „In the meantime also small and medium-sized companies increasingly implement innovative information and telecommunications technology in order to further their businesses. By awarding this prize for exemplary solutions we intend to encourage even more small and medium-sized companies to capitalise on the vast opportunites provided by modern information technology.”

Small and medium-sized companies which are interested in taking part can apply until August 15th 2006. The jury which is made up of representatives from science, business and the participating companies will award 3 aspirants with prizes of 25.000 Euro each in the categories “E-business”, “Broadband” and “Mobility”. The awards ceremony will take place on the occasion of the 2nd German ITK-Mittelstandstag in November 2006.
